In Shenzhen, enterprises play a major role in scientific innovations. Enterprises hire 90 percent of the city's R& D personnel, fund 90 percent of the city's R&D projects, set up 90 percent of the city's R&D institutes, and produce 90 percent of the patented inventions made by employees.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen, thanks to its competitiveness in self innovation, has created 5,404 inventory patents, with a 1.39-time increase and 2,709 PCT Patents, accounting for 44.5% of China’s total, ranking the 1st for 5 consecutive years and mainly coming from electronic and information industry.
