Once you see how easy being efficient and organized really is,The Ease Of Efficiency And Organization Articles there is no way that you are going to ever want to go back. You will never want to go back to having a messy and unorganized desk at work or a messy garage at home. Even though these two things couldn't be further away in your mind, you can use the same principles for both things.
Your garage is in all probability something that causes you headaches, especially when you're trying to find something like a tool or a can of paint, and your desk is the same way. You know when it is messy and you're unorganized that you are unable to find what you need, whether it is a receipt to turn into accounting or a quote for a new customer, you need to be able to find it in an efficient and timely manner. Your boss will thank you, and at home, your wife, the real boss will thank you as well.
But what is more important than that, you will thank yourself for making your life easier. So these principles of having everything in its place and having a place for everything work just as well in any situation. If you are a contractor building houses, you can't ignore these principles. You must keep your work area, the jobsite, clean and organized. How else are you going to find the things you need? Also, it is very important in a situation like this because if you have a messy and unorganized work area, you not only cannot find what you are looking for, but you also create a safety hazard.
You could also create a safety hazard at home if you are not careful. I know that I have tripped in my garage before, and it was not anybody's fault but my own. Things need to have a place, and the floor isn't that place. If you are not careful, you could soon find a television crew from a learning channel wanting to document the mess that you have for an upcoming television special.
The point is that it doesn't take long for something like that to get out of hand. Mess builds on top of mess and the opposite is true as well. If your work are is clean, then it will be harder for others not to keep up with your best practices. This is especially important for supervisors and those in managerial roles.
