Hiring managers are always looking for better ways to find the best applicants out of the pile of candidates for an open position. Reviewing resumes is certainly one part,The Value of Logic Interview Questions Articles but the job interview is where you get to know the candidate personally, and it’s the best (if not the only) way for you to get a glimpse of the type of employee they will be.

The issue is, however, that acing a job interview does not always guarantee the success of an applicant. Applicants can be personable and well trained for the job interview process, but when it comes to recruitment – especially in Sydney – you need to have some idea that the employee is going to succeed no matter what task is thrown at them.

The Value of Logic Interview Questions

It’s here where logic interview questions may be in your best interest. As the name implies, these questions are not about the job, someone’s experience, or how they plan to interact with employees. These questions are simply logic questions – logic puzzles, if you will.

The reason these questions are so valuable is because they show two extremely important qualities of a great candidate: intelligence, and problem solving ability. The reality is that most job tasks can be learned with a minimal amount of training, as long as the employee has some degree of intelligence. Previous experience is not always as important as the ability to learn, and since most jobs are constantly evolving, experience with one program may be irrelevant just a few months to a year after the candidate is hired.

That’s where logic interview questions can be of great benefit. These questions test the candidate’s ability to think critically, and provide an answer that shows they have a quick thinking mind. Some examples of logic interview questions include:

·         Why are manhole covers round?

·         How many coffee shops are there in China?

·         What is the angle of clock hands at 5:15?

Logic questions don’t always need to have specific answers. For example, there is no way to know with certainty how many coffee shops there are in China. But what the candidate can do is explain their thought process and how they handle that type of question. Similarly, sometimes you can learn even more about a candidate than you realized. Candidates that can figure out the angle of click hands at 5:15 (60 degrees) are going to be quick thinking candidates – but perhaps the candidate also says something clever, such as “or 320 degrees, depending on how you’re measuring it.” That will show you a candidate with a sharp wit and the ability to think beyond the question.

Using Logic Interview Questions at a Job Interview

Logic interview questions tell you very little about the candidate’s previous experience or how well they know your company. But they still tell you some very interesting information about a candidate, and that information can arguably be more valuable than any standard interview question. Always remember that a job interview is about finding the right candidate, not always getting the right answers. Logic interview questions are one way to further that goal.
