In the late 1980s and early 1990s uPVC windows grew in popularity due to their relatively low costs and maintenance over the wood alternatives. However,Timber Window Market Growth Continues Articles in recent times, maintaining timber windows has become significantly easier.  As uPVC windows are reaching the end of their life expectancy,  they are beginning to look worse for wear. So people are returning to trusty wooden windows for their unmatched benefits and beauty as well their environmental credentials. Most importantly though, there are plenty of options with the timber windows.

Latest study by Palmer Market Research indicates that the UK wood window market grew to nearly 750 thousand frames, which represents over 17% of growth in 2015.  What is interesting is that the survey forecasts this growth to continue for at least another 3 years.

The underlying data suggest

  • a decline of uPVC installation,
  • and a growth of premium window materials that are mainly timber and aluminium based.

According to the research, the market share for the timber windows will increase by 10% over the next 5 years as well.

The research points out that the key growth areas for the wood windows are the social housing refurbishment market and the new build market. It also points out that the real opportunity is within the much larger home improvement market, which represents nearly 70% of all the wood windows sold across the country.

Although casement windows make up the majority of timber window sales (58%), vertical sliding sash windows remain dominated by the wood alternatives, making up nearly a third of all wooden window sales, compared with just 6% for all materials.
