Tips for Choosing Rotary Dimmer Switch

Rotary dimmer switch is a traditional dimmer switch that controls the conventional lights, and they now support LED lighting as well. It allows switching and dimming of LED lights by clicking and rotating the knob.

Rotary dimmer switch adopts sleek metal-look rotary knob and high tempered glass  frame. The rotary is easy to click and rotate. Click once to switch on the lamp, and click again to switch off. Rotate to the right to dim up brightness and rotate to the left to dim down brightness. The interface is user-friendly and easy to operate without any difficulties. Wireless control is possible if it integrates the radio frequency module and the receiver also has the RF module. Generally a rotary dimmer only allows one zone (area) control.

 

To use the rotary dimmer, a control unit which sends control signal is required, the receiver that receives the control signal and outputs PWM signal to dim the lamps. The control units is available with different signal output, for instance, RF / WiFi wireless, DMX, DALI, 0-10V and so on, and you have to choose corresponding receivers.

 

The rotary switch should be powered by a power supply if it is with DC input or a built-in battery. Or it can be directly connected to the AC mains if it is AC input style. The signal output end should be connected to the receiver signal input end if it is designed with DMX, DALI or 0-10v signal. For RF signal, no wiring required, just pairing the sender and the receiver is ok.

 

The receiver is a decoder that receives the control signal and converts it to PWM output to control the lamps. An AC to DC power supply is required if the receiver is with DC input, otherwise it can be directly connected with the AC mains. Please make sure the types of lamp you use first, AC or DC input? If they are with DC input, constant voltage or constant current? Once you figure out these details, you can choose the right receiver and dimmer correspondingly. For short distance control RF/WiFi style is recommended. For long distance and stable control, DMX, DALI or 0-10v style is recommended.
