Tips on Maintenance of Contract Vinyl Flooring
Tuff flooring as well as contract vinyl flooring require regular cleaning and maintenance in order to keep it looking shiny and new.
Vinyl is a common material used for flooring in commercial and institutional buildings. This material is not only durable and long-lasting but also attractive. Even under high traffic conditions, this material remains shiny and strong. But is it indestructible? The answer is no. You need to maintain it on a regular basis in order to maintain its eye-catching appearance for years to come.
Here are a few useful tips to care for contract vinyl flooring:
It is recommended to wait for 72 hours after installation of the flooring. This time will be required for curing of the adhesive and heat welds.
Make sure you have removed any coverings that were used for floor protection prior to cleaning.
If there is dirt on the floor then sweep, vacuum or dust mop the flooring so that there is no accumulation of dirt.
You will need a good quality pH cleaner for cleaning the flooring.
Use a scrubber for the cleaning process. Sprinkle the cleaning solution on the area and let it stand for at least 10-15 minutes. Don’t wait for too long or else the solution will start drying. Then use a scrubber and clean the floor thoroughly.
You can even wet mop or vacuum the residue.
Then use clean water for rinsing the floor and let it dry thoroughly.
Once dry, you can do dry scrubbing and if more shine is required then you can use a burnishing machine.
In order to maintain the vinyl flooring on a daily basis, you will have to ensure that it is swept with a clean broom or vacuumed for removing dirt particles. If there are spills then try and clean it as soon as possible. Neutral pH cleaner needs to be used for spot cleaning stains.
Don’ts of Cleaning the Vinyl Flooring
Never use highly acidic or solvent-based cleaner or products or else it will remove color from the flooring. It might also degrade the flooring prematurely.
Never make the mistake of using cleaning agents that contain oil. Also, don’t keep the solution for too long on the flooring or else it will work its way beneath the floor and cause adhesive failure.
Be it a residential or commercial building, it is advised to use warning signs when the flooring is wet and slippery. This is necessary for avoiding accidents.
When applying a floor finish to the contract vinyl flooring, it is recommended to use premium quality finish that is specially designed for vinyl flooring. If you are getting a finish then the maintenance process will change a bit because you will also have to maintain the finish. You can get in touch with the finish manufacturer in order to know the best way of maintaining the applied finish.
For protecting vinyl or tuff flooring from movement of heavy furniture and appliances, use something like floor protectors under furniture. This will help in reducing indentations.
