I have been working in the copywriting business for quite some time and I can tell you that there are some killer sales pages out there, but they didn’t start out that way. In many cases they started out as a presence on the web but over time and AB testing they have become cash generating powerhouses.
Understanding AB Testing
An Internet marketer who is truly trying to unleash a high profit beast should be AB testing everything. AB testing is a form of split testing and is a process of testing different versions of a sales page and then comparing the conversion rate.
In order for a piece of copy to be successful it must be very good at converting a visitor. Conversion can be a number of things including making a sale, getting your traffic to sign up for your list, or even just bookmarking your page so they can return later. No matter what you are trying to accomplish it can be improved tremendously through AB testing.
How I Conduct AB Testing on my Sites
#1 – Creation – First I create a page that I am initially happy with. Then I create other versions of the same page. I change some of the elements of the page on each version and then drive traffic to each to see which page brings in the sales.
#2 – Traffic for Testing – Once the pages are created and ready I begin using different forms of traffic generation to drive targeted traffic to each version. You can drive traffic with pay per click advertising, article marketing, or any other method that you like but it is important that you tabulate the success rate based on the number of visitors.
#3 – We Have a Winner – After a period of time compare the results to discover which version of the sales page was the most responsive.
#4 – Begin Again – Once I have determined the most productive page from the original AB testing I start all over again. I keep the best page and create a few more to test against it.
The secret to developing powerful sales materials is constant testing. If you keep working to make your sales copy and websites better your sales and income will increase in kind.
