The education system is geared towards guiding us to provide a perfect answer for every question. We are precisely measured and learn how to rigidly follow a set plan. Of course this leads to becoming qualified employees who can get a specific job done, but unfortunately does little to help us remain create let alone make us more creative than we were when we were a child. Because of this handicap, we all need to take steps throughout our lives to become more creative so we don’t lose this critical skill. This guide lists a number of methods you can use to become more creative. Read a Lot The first step in becoming more creative is to absorb as much information as you possibly can. The more you read, the more you come to understand, but also the more you get to see things from other angles. Over time, repeated learning allows you to form new patterns of thought which can become a great source of creative thinking. The old saying still holds that, the more you know and learn the more you feel you don’t know and so the more you want to read. This positive feedback cycle is a great source of learning and creativity. Examples:
Ask Questions Creativity starts by asking questions. Sometimes these questions should go as far as asking the status cue and the seemingly obvious. This way, you get to break through age-old assumptions that might be holding you down. Here are some examples:
Take Notes Ideas can come to you at any time. You need to capture these ideas as soon as they pop up into your mind or they will be gone. Historically, the classic recommendation is to have a notebook all the time with you so you can jot everything down as they come to you. This can be difficult since it is not always practical to take a notebook with you everywhere you go. These days however you can easily take this to the next level. With all the advances of technology, we are now guaranteed to have a phone with us everywhere we are. Get a smart phone which is easy to use so you can immediately take notes of your creative thoughts. Setup an automatic sync system so your notes are always synched with your computer so that you have a backup and you can easily work on them or extend them even further. Do New Things As children we are extremely curious to try new things. We are great explorers, we are curious just about everything and we will not stop until we have got what we wanted. Why should this be any different when we become adults? Go for new experiences, get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to learn new skills. Examples:
