When the Confederate Flag was removed from the state house in Southern California,What the Confederate flag’s design says about its legacy? Articles many cheers, chants and song erupted from the large crowd. They chanted: "USA, USA"!

The design of the flag has not happened by chance. Ted Kaye, who is a vexillologist of the Flag Association in Portland, said this. Ted is also a member of the design committee of Fiji's newest flag.

In the year 1861, designers were invited to design the Confederacy's national flag. The design that won included "Stars and Bars". There were also three horizontal stripes. These were: one white and two red. A blue box was also included. This included white stars located in the top left hand corner. On the battlefield however; this flag caused much confusion. This is because it was very similar to the Union flag.

The best flag design was a flag made in the form of a square. This became known as the Confederacy battle flag. This included a blue cross with white stars. These were placed on a red background. A white border went around the flag. This design was put in the top left hand corner of a flag that was white. This became known as the latest official flag. This came about in the year 1863. The flag covered the coffin of Confederate general: Stonewall Jackson. However; unfortunately this appeared to be like a surrender flag. To make it different, the Confederacy included a vertical red bar. This was put on the right hand side. This made for a third national flag that came out in 1865.

In the mean time Kaye said: that the longest symbol of the Confederacy came from docked ships. These ships had a small amount of Confederate navy. These Confederate ships were regularly at the port. They also regularly hung a naval jack up. This included the battle flag that did not have a white boarder.

The flag has taken a lot of Kaye's elements for good design of flags. It is not complicated. It simply has two or three colors, no seals or letters and it has meaning. Colors and images have been included. This is what makes it relate to what it symbolizes. This particular flag is a major stand out to others.

Kaye said that: a flag's design can have a powerful effect from one countries relationship to another country. Liberia's flag came about in 1847. This occurred following the previous U.S. slaves who developed the country. It is very similar to the flag of America. It also shows the relationship between each country. In all kinds of ways, the Confederate battle flag parallel's the flag of America. They both have the same coloring. They also depend on the same geometric elements. There are thirteen stars located on the Confederate battle flag. This is also the same as the first U.S. Country Flag.

The way that the flag of America was designed is why the Confederate flag has so much power to it. This was said by Claire Potter. Claire is a co-director of The Humanities Action Lab. This is located at The New School.

In latter days; the flag soon shifted in the Democratic Party. This occurred when the State Rights Democratic Party moved away from supporting the movement for civil rights. This Democratic Party was also known as the Dixie rats. Many hate groups also used this flag. This included the Ku Klux Klan. This group has a very close association between flag and those who opposed it. The flag soon returned to South Carolina at the State Capitol. This was used to mark one hundred years from when the Civil War began.
