What you need to operate in the offshore access industry

Introduction

One of the most profitable industries of the last 5 years is the offshore access industry. This industry serves a market that is growing in a rapid speed. The market can be divided in two parts: The offshore oil & gas industry and the offshore wind industry.  However, the offshore access industry can be a bit complex and hard to understand for outsiders, mainly due to its high-tech nature. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to make things a bit clearer.

Profitability

The two market segments the companies in this industry serve are in general very wealthy. They value safety and service higher than price of the offshore transport. Therefore, companies operating in this industry are making huge revenues. Furthermore, it is estimated that both segments will grow in a rapid speed, leading to even more orders. This growth is accelerated by two events. First of all, leaders from all over the world are searching for more sustainable forms of energy generation. Because of this, many wind parks are planned to be built in the near future.  Furthermore, recently oil discoveries were made in Brazil. This drives the demand for offshore transfer solutions even further.

Requirements

However, it has to be noted that this is not an easy industry to compete in. You will need to fulfill the following in order to successfully serve the market:

• Properly functioning offshore transport technique, that can operate even in adverse weather conditions, such as high waves or fog.
• Transport to bring the system/solution to the place of operation.
• Experienced personnel that make sure the system is running well and is used properly.

Furthermore, I cannot emphasize safety enough. If accidents happen during the transport of personnel and people become injured or even die, this will lead to severe reputation damage. This reputation damage can even drive you out of business.
