Wicker is not a material itself but it is made from weaving the plant fibers. The objects made by weaving the plant fibers are also known as wicker. The plant used to make it is rattan. Maintaining the Wicker Furniture

It is easy to clean the wicker furniture. Cleaning keeps it in a good shape year after year. Paint brush, vegetable brush, toothbrush or similar implements can be used for cleaning the wicker fixtures. To retain its moisture, wipe it with a damp sponge occasionally. If it loses its humidity, the objects become fragile and brittle. Regular dusting prevents it from being damaged. Vacuum the surface using a soft bristle brush. Scrub the surface with a sponge and mild detergent. Wipe it off with a damp cloth after scrubbing. Soft brush and warm soap water should be used to clean the furniture only once a year.

If mildew is present in the wicker fixtures, a mild solution of bleach and dish detergent can be used to clean the stains. Dry the furniture and do not use if for a day. Keeping it wet may damage the joints. Varnish can be applied to it every few years to protect the coating from cracking. It can be painted to preserve its quality and the furniture looks cleaned too. Keep it away from direct sunlight, heaters, fireplaces and radiators. Always clean in the direction of the weave. Wipe off the stains immediately as they are absorbed soon. Do not apply pressure while cleaning as it will damage the wicker furniture.
