Advantages Of Hillsborough Community College

Students who elect to receive their degree and transfer to a four year institution are provided with courses designed to make every credit earned count. The length of time that an individual must spend at a four year institution is greatly reduced when all of the Hillsborough Community College credits are transferable. In addition, the college offers several preparatory programs for students who will enter the university.

Although Hillsborough Community College has a very large student population, the administration and faculty work diligently to assure that each student is treated as an individual. Students are encouraged to participate in community and campus activities and are given opportunities to earn college credits for many off-campus programs.

In order to meet the needs of a growing workforce population, the College offers Adult Education Programs that include high school completion. Students participating in an Adult Education Program are able to complete high school, take the necessary coursework to attain an Associate's degree, and earn college transfer credits. The programs are offered at times and on days when a working student can attend.

A unique feature of Hillsborough Community College is their provision of living quarters to their students. Individuals are able to live in student apartments with roommates. These dormitory style apartments allow students to exchange ideas and maintain an educational environment when they are off campus. The apartments provide tutoring programs and off-site educational services to assist the residents of the apartments in learning the study habits they will need at the university.

Student apartments are equipped with computer equipment that is directly connected to the college server. This allows students to interact with faculty and staff at the college and take courses which are offered through the On line Programs available. The students are provided with tutors that live on the site and are matched with roommates that have been at the College for at least one year.

There are several satellite schools throughout Florida that are part of Hillsborough Community College. These schools work closely with both the College and community to assure that any individual wishing to become a student has an opportunity to do so. Scholarships are provided by both the College and Private funders on a yearly basis which assist students with tuition and supplies.
