Chipola College In The Florida Panhandle

If you live in the Panhandle region of Florida and you're looking for an excellent liberal arts school where you can flourish as an individual but be part of an active student body, Chipola College is waiting to hear from you. While the majority of students who attend Chipola live within a fifty mile radius of Marianna, Florida, everyone is welcomed and encouraged to apply for admission to this fine school.

Chipola still primarily offers two year associate's degrees to students who are on their way to receiving a four year bachelor's degree. Chipola enjoys a varied student population but most students who attend Chipola come from the surrounding counties of Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Calhoun and Liberty County. Chipola is located in Marianna, in the Florida Panhandle, bordering on Alabama and Georgia.

Bordering on the states of Alabama and Georgia, the school offers students an abundance of activities off campus but not too far away.

Chipola College was founded in 1947 as a private university. The following year, a mandate was passed in the state of Florida that allowed for public funding of places of higher education.

The school came into existence in 1947, being a private institution due to laws in the state of Florida. However, the next year, the Minimum Foundation Law was introduced and passed. This new law enabled communities and counties in the state of Florida to give financial support to colleges, allowing them to become public universities and colleges.

The school got it's start on the grounds of the local Army air base and classes were held there from 1947 until 1953. When the 1954 school year started in the Fall, the school began operating in it's current location, with the help of funding from the surrounding counties. Once the school changed it's course offerings in 2003Free Web Content, the name of the school was changed from Chipola Junior College to it's current name. The school now offers bachelor's degrees in both Mathematics and Science.

Chipola College is still a springboard for many of it's students. These students opt to get associate's degrees from the school and continue on to get their bachelor's degree elsewhere. There are student organizations and on and off campus activities scheduled during the school year.
