A clinical nurse specialist or CNS as it is more popularly known as is an advanced nursing course which aims at preparing nurses for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They are clinical experts and practice with other nurses to excel in treating illness. There are three domains of clinical nurse specialists and they are also known as spheres of influence. They encircle nursing personnel, patient/family and system organization. Within these spheres of influence there are seven core areas where CNSs have to focus. 
Direct clinical practice is the first domain which aims at providing nursing care, evaluating assessment and outcomes. Expert coaching is next domain which provides expert training to patient and its family. These also coach nurses to give better care facility to patients. Under collaboration, integrated teams are made to focus on work. Consultation is next area in domain and it aims at implementing decided changes. 
Research phase of domain of CNS includes working on interpreting practice and collaborating for research work. Clinical and professional leadership aims at providing best patient care system in the organization to enhance quality of service. Lat but no the least is Ethical Decision Making which involves taking decision regarding allocation of resources and taking care about different patients. 
Educational Requirements 
Training and education needs to be regularly and continuously undertaken to work as clinical nurse specialist. Constant research and training will keep them updated about new systems of patient care and system organization. A masters degree is must as this is an advanced course. It is mandatory to have a license to work as a nurse form state in which you have to work as clinical nurse specialist.
