Education Trends in India

There is hardly any doubt that India has the finest educational and professional institutions spread across the country, such as, Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Management, yet when the cream of the talent passing out of these institutions are asked to exercise their option, almost 95% of them would opt to choose a career abroad.

Preference for Offshore Careers

One of the fundamental reasons for this consistent brain drain has been a widespread preference that qualified people have for working in foreign countries normally due to better facilities available relating to their profession, lucrative salary along with perquisites that commensurate with their qualifications. Apart from the salary earned in foreign currency and the amenities offered is the excellent quality of life that they spend in those countries. The situation of brain drain had become extremely acute and there was hardly any way to contain the migration of the intellectual property to other countries. The higher echelons in the government did not want to fritter away the precious resources of talent and preferred them to make their valuable contribution for the improvement of the quality of life of the people in the country.

Job Opportunities in Government & Corporate Sector

Ultimately, the government rose up to the challenge to put a stop to this brain drain by creating enough jobs in India as well as a working environment congenial to the skilled and talented persons passing out of premier institutions. Apart from the private sector, there are ample government jobs in India for which there are very few takers. One of the earliest impressions for talented people is that government jobs in India cannot match the salaries that are being offered in the corporate sector. Although there are sufficient opportunities in the government sector and public sector undertakings such as nationalized banks, armed forces, various ministries, yet there are very few people who are ready to join. In the present scenario, the salaries and perquisites that are being offered by the government have become at par with the private sector although they still cannot match the salaries in the private sector.
