Enthusiasm And It's Amazing Powers

You wouldn't believe it but it's true. You can now get cat food for free and delivered to your door step. Just call any major supermarket and give then your home address. Although, this may not be true, the sigh of enthusiasm and excitement in my voice can encourage and motivate people to believe me.

Years back, while I was a student at Kingston University, two psychology students came up with an idea to test the effects of enthusiasm on people. The results were unbelievable. The idea was to play a prank on other fellow students in two different ways but using the same strategy. One way would be with enthusiasm and the other would be without. The Prank: To deceive everyone into believing that the local high street bank; LloydsTSB was giving away £50 to all non LloydsTSB customers who were students, interested in opening an account with them.

The two of them set out on the first day to try it out without enthusiasm at one of the two campuses. The Results: It was not fun doing it and they spoke to very little people. Mainly because they got bored of telling the first 10 people who showed no sign interest because they did not sound and look convincing enough. The results were devastating, with no one believing them.

The second day, they decided to add a bit of energy and enthusiasm as they spread the good news across the second campus with with so much energy, excitement and enthusiasm. The results were staggering. 95% of everyone they spoke to responded and the high street bank had never been so busy and frustrated by the sheer amount of unsatisfied potential customers expecting a £50 credit into their new bank account.

This is the power of Enthusiasm. It is not only contagious, but it can also get people to do what you want them to do with so much energy and conviction. "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasmScience Articles," said the very quotable Ralph Waldo Emerson. If you want people to move on your behalf be an enthusiast.
