Campus

College campus comprises of four schools; namely; school of business and technology, school of health science, school of liberal arts, and school of nursing.

Brief History

Founded in 1971 by the Board of regents of New York State for external degree programs and it was sponsored by Ford Foundation and Carnegie Foundation. It operated under the New York University till 1998 when the Board of Regents granted it an absolute charter to operate as private, nonprofit and independent institution. In 2001 the name of the college was changed to Excelsior, the Latin version for ever upward and has today over 30,000 enrolled students that give it a venerable position in the university directory of New York .

Programs Offered

Both undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered by the college. Besides various graduate and undergraduate programs, it also offers master's degree in liberal arts.

Accreditation

Excelsior College is one of the regionally accredited colleges that operate of models similar to Thomas Edison State College of New Jersey and Charter Oak State College of Connecticut. Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited the college. Electronics and nuclear engineering courses are accredited by Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc and baccalaureate degree program in accounting and business by International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

It is possible to complete degree courses offered by the college remaining at a distance using the college credits earned by examination or from other intuitions. One of the highlights of the college is its distance learning program providing online education. Examinations and non-collegiate training can be taken on line.

Admission

Dual credit, life experience and advanced placements are accepted admission credits.

Unique Features

Excelsior College sets no limitation on the number of transfer credits that could be allowed. It also offers the Excelsior College Examinations (ECE) comparable to CLEP and DSST examinations. A member of service members opportunity colleges or SOC consortium of American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), it is dedicated to helping service members and families in earning college degrees. Renowned for its Nursing courses, it has been twice designated as the center of excellence for nursing education by National League for Nursing.
