Pakistan Army is the 6th largest standing army in the world and is known for its professional and trained soldiers and officers. These officers come through different courses offered by the army. Below is the list of all the courses that you can apply to be apart of the force as an officer.

Armed Forces of Pakistan (Army,How to Become an Officer in Armed Forces of Pakistan Articles Navy, Airforce) are the most reputable and prestigious institutions of Pakistan. Every Pakistani has a desire to be a part of these forces to serve the country.

Different types of courses are offered to become an officer in these forces at different stages. Here we will discuss courses offered by Pakistan Army.

The selection process for all these courses is as follows:

  • Initial Tests and Interview
  • ISSB Tests
  • Final Medical

First, we look at the courses offered by the Pakistan Army:

1. PMA Long Course 

This course is offered twice a year. You can apply for this course after your intermediate (FSc/A-level). The minimum percentage to apply for this course is 60%. The duration of training is 2 years of military training at PMA Kakul. Candidates get a commission in the army as 2nd lieutenant.

2. Technical Cadet Course:

This course is offered once a year in the month of FEB or MAR. Minimum educational qualification is FSc or A-level with 60%. After successful completion of all the tests, candidates pursue a 4-year degree at Army Engineering Schools and Colleges. A 1-year military training at PMA Kakul is also a part of the training. Cadets get a commission in the army after 5 years as a captain.

3. Short Service Regular Commission:

Through this course, you can join the army as a medical officer. The minimum qualification for this course is MBBS or BDS from a recognized institution. The training period for this course is 22 weeks. You can join the army in two ways through this course.

  • As a Captain
  • As a Major

General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) with only an MBBS degree can join as a Captain and a candidate with higher specialization can join as a Major. Similarly, a candidate with only a BDS degree can also join as a Captain (General Duty Dental Officers) and one with higher specialization can join as a Major.

4. Direct Short Service Commission:

You can also join the Army as a captain through direct short service commission. Training period for this course is 6 months List of degrees is as follows:

  • BE in the Electrical, Telecom, Software Eng
  • MBA in Supply Chain Management
  • BE Electronics
  • BS/BE in Cyber Security/Geo-Informatics /Geo Matics

5. Lady Cadet Course/Graduate Course:

If you have completed your graduation then it is time to join the army through lady cadet course or graduate course (Male and Female). The training period for this course is 1 year at PMA. List of acceptable degrees is as follows:

  •  BE in Electrical, Telecom, Software Engg
  • MBA in Supply Chain Management
  • BE in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engg
  • BS/BE in Software Engineering, Cyber Security / Geo-Informatics/Geo Matics
