Metropolitan Community College , Pen Valley is the Platform for Migration to Four Year Colleges
One of the campuses of the Metropolitan Community College Systems in the city of Kansas in the State of Missouri in United States , Metropolitan Community College , Pen Valley , is a two year college. It offers a good platform to students aspiring to transfer to four year institutions at the end of their academic program in the college.
Major programs on the Penn Valley campus are the health career programs, the Francis Child Development Institute, technical and applied art programs, Applied Language Institute and the teacher training programs. Main campus of the college is located at 3201 Southwest Traffic Way , while the Pioneer campus is located at 2700 East Eighteenth Street , Kansas City , Missouri . Health science institute, professional nursing, art programs, child and youth development, teacher education, applied language institute, and KIPP Endeavor Academy are campus highlights.
Kansas City Polytechnic Institute started in 1915 with 234 students and became Junior college of Kansas City as the first two year college in United States in 1919. Plans for Metropolitan community college were approved in 1964 and the college was opened in 1969. Blue River Community College in Independence was established in the year 1997 amalgamating the Blue Springs with Independence campuses. 1995 business services campus became Business and Technology College in 2002. Five colleges combined to become the Metropolitan Community College in 2005.
Two years programs are offered that are designed to transfer students to four year universities. In addition the college offers vocational and technical training programs with a view in improving their career prospects and job opportunities.
Higher Learning Commission has granted accreditation to the college that is also member of the North Central Association.
Flexible open admission policy is adopted by the college. Proof of U.S citizenship or legal residency is required according to the recently passed Missouri Laws. Dual credits and advanced placements are accepted admission credits in the college.
If an applicant did not graduate from high school or displays other core deficiencies, admissions counselors will help develop a remediation program to prepare them for the rigors of college.
Metropolitan Community College Penn Valley provides extensive supports along with remedial instructions, career and employment counseling in various aspects, PT cost defraying employment, and on campus library. Counseling includes career and academic counseling and employment services. Freshman Orientation program, personal counseling, veterans counseling, placement services and adult students re-entering services are also offered.
Metropolitan Community College Penn Valley offers federal, state, local, and institutional grants, scholarships, and student loans. Aids are applied using the FAFSA form. More than 66% students receive financial aid in the socio economically diverse student community of the college while 43% also receive grants and scholarships.
