Tig welding is an arc welding process, which uses non consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. This welding process enhances the operator a great control over other welding procedures. It is used to weld steel and non ferrous metals and it is more specifically known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, or GTAW.

TIG welding is performed using welder equipment known as tig welders. The tig welders use an electrical arc that connects the electrode to the metal being welded when the two are held close together. The heat from the electrical current melts the metal where the connection occurs.

The gases used in tig welding:

Inert gases are used in tig welding to prevent the tungsten electrode from contamination. The inert gases used in TIG welding most often were helium, but today combination of argon, helium, and hydrogen are used. All inert gases are non reactive and that will not catch fire or react to the intense welding. Helium helps to generate more heat, but argon is an excellent shielding gas, and hydrogen can create cleaner welds. The main purpose of the gas is to protect the weld from exposure to air. Oxygen, water vapor, and particles in the air can ruin a weld before it cools, but the gas protects the weld and combines with the metal to form a stronger bond. TIG welding produces welds of up to 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Tig welding is done with a torch that holds the tungsten electrode when the current flows through.

The role of tig welder:

TIG welding is used for items that need a clean finish, such as bicycle frames, cookware and manufacturing equipment. Aerospace industry is one of the primary users of tig welding.  The tig welding process becomes unreliable without tig welders and this welder machine has high duty cycle and easily handles tough jobs that would push a competitor's welder past its thermal limits. They offer easy to adjust settings without complicated hidden menus and difficult to access features found in many inverter welders. Before, portable welders were possible only in mig configuration whereas today, tig welder products come in a portable form with light weight and compact in nature, as well as easy to take into the field to perform repairs.
