If,Apple iPad Button Help Articles like myself, you bought an excellent iPad and love it, youll very likely want to get the very most from it. Utilizing the Apple iPad is pretty intuitive - however to save time, I’ve place together this simple guide - take a look at these iPad buttons that you will use frequently:

The On/Off, Sleep/Wake button: This key is on the top of your iPad, and you use it to place your iPad's screen to sleep or wake it up.

Home button: Regardless of what you are doing, you can press the Home button at any time to display the Home screen on your iPad.

Application icons: Each icon shown on the touch-screen releases a particular iPad application. Thirteen apps come with the iPad, and you can add more by getting them from the App Shop. If you don't have an iStore account as yet, visit the apple website and download the itunes application, following the instructions.

Volume Up/Down control: The upper part of the button increases the volume; the lower piece decreases it.

Mute switch: When the ipad toggle is set to Quiet mode – that is the down position, with an orange dot visible on the switch - your iPad wont make any type of sound when you get new messages or alerts which pop up on the screen. Note that the Mute change doesn't silence what you might think of as "expected” sound, that’s noises you expect to hear in a particular app. Therefore, it doesn't silence the iTunes or Videos apps, neither will it mute games and other apps that emit noises. About the only thing the Mute switch will mute are "unexpected" sounds, like those associated with notifications from apps or the iPad operating system (iOS).

If the switch doesn't quiet the notice sounds whenever its clicked (that is, you can see the little orange dot on the switch), look for a small No Rotation icon, to the left of the Battery icon, near the top of your screen.

If you see this icon whenever you flick the Mute switch, there tends to be 2 possible reasons. Reason 1: Your iPad is running an older variation (poss ver. 3) of iOS. Reason 2: Your iPad is running version 4 or perhaps higher of iOS & you may have selected the Lock Rotation option in the Settings app's General pane.

Reason 1 occurs to the fact iOS 3 treats the switch as a rotation lock, and doesn’t give you an option to use it as a Mute switch. If that's the case, upgrade the iPad to the current iOS version by clicking the Check for Updates button on the Summary tab and follow the instructions for updating your iPad.

The current version of iOS 5 treats it as a Mute switch by standard, however you can change it to a Rotation Lock in the Settings app's General pane.
