Microsoft Dynamics GP or as it was formerly known – Great Plains Dynamics, is good mid-market Corporate ERP platform, which has sufficient functionality to cover SCM or Warehouse Management System generic features. However, Great Plains needs Barcoding interface to be ready for your Warehouse Management integration

Technically Barcode scanning is similar to simple keyboard manual entry,Barcoding in Microsoft Dynamics GP Supply Chain Management Articles but such features as the whole document scan with inventory lines and following Barcode scanner batch upload to your Dynamics GP require custom Barcoding support add-on
1. Inventory replenishment as part of SCM.  In Microsoft Dynamics GP merchandize restocking is part of Purchase Order Processing module - Purchase Receipt transaction.  If you are running components and spare part inventory, you may consider POP Purchase Configurator to reorder inventory items based on ABC codes, Vendor lead time and other criteria.  Or if you are mid-size or large discrete manufacturer, you may decide to implement MRP module for restocking and inventory cost minimization.  Alba Spectrum WMS allows you to enter Purchase Receipt document directly on the Warehouse floor by Barcode scanning and uploading scanned PO Receipt from your barcode scanner WMS client application to WMS Server which sends document over to Dynamics GP via ODBC connection
2. Sales Order Fulfillment.  If your customers are placing orders online or via B2B or B2C ecommerce interface (industrial ecommerce shopping cards, such as Magento, etc.) – these orders should be ready for Warehouse Management fulfillment (sometimes referred as allocation).  In Dynamics GP that feature is typically implemented in SOP Sales Transaction Entry, where SOP Type is set to require manual line allocation (automatic allocation picks items from default inventory site by FIFO, LIFO or other criterion – you need to allocate on the warehouse floor by scanning the item tag or barcode label)
3. Inventory Site to Site transfers and Decrease/Increase Adjustment (including Physical Count).  Our WMS module opens Inventory transaction for barcoding.  If you are looking for light assembly – consider first GP Bill of Material module, where you can automate simple discrete production

How to request further help?  Feel free to call us 1-866-528-0577, 1-630-961-5918 or email us help@albaspectrum.com  We are serving Dynamics GP WMS, SCM, Barcoding, Logistics, Distribution, Manufacturing oriented customers in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston and USA, Canada nationwide and internationally
5. Recovering unsuccessful Warehouse Management System implementation.  The term implementation itself assumes that the process is not a piece of cake.  It is reshaping of your IT infrastructure, especially its Corporate ERP part.  If your SCM or WMS implementation failed and you are not sure what to do now, we recommend you to seek for second opinion.  Corporate ERP consulting industry is matured and there should be somebody there who is Dynamics GP Consultant with Barcoding and Warehouse Management expertise.  We heard multiple stores about WMS integration nightmare – it requires custom programming, it often goes over budget, etc.
6. Dynamics GP WMS Implementation mechanics.  Typical scenario is the following.  First is sales cycle with Great Plains demo with its SMC add-on.  When you are ready to the implementation itself we are coming onsite to your location (we travel USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South Africa, UK, Ireland and the rest of the World) for initial WMS and Dynamics GP installation and user training.  This first onsite visit is important in our opinion as our consultant should be able to force decision making and custom processes documenting.  Following support could be done remotely to minimize ERP budget, as we are already familiar with your key personnel
