There is usually always a legend behind every great tradition in the world. Likewise the hanging of theChristmas stocking during Christmas has a perfect fairy tale behind it.

It is believed that long time ago there was an old man who had three beautiful daughters. The man was so poor that he could not afford the wedding of his three daughters. That was a great issue of stress as he was sure he would be dying soon as he was weak and fragile.

St. Nicholas,Christmas Stocking Fairy Tale Articles one of the many saints of the fourth century, heard of the story of the three girls as he was passing the village where the old man lived. He had the great urge to help the man but he knew the man had his pride ad would not allow his to help them. During the night, he secretly creped through the chimney into the house.. He had in his possession a bag of gold coin for each of the girl.

During his search for an appropriate place to keep the bags of gold, henoticed the stockings that were hanging on the fireplace. He placed the bag of gold in each of the girl's stockings. In the morning the girls found the gold coins, were very happy and they got married before their father died. Like every fairly tale, they lived happily ever after.

This led to the invention of Christmas stocking. At first the children would just put one of their normal socks until later when there was introduction of Christmas stocking. Most of the children still believe in this fairy tale and still hang theChristmas stocking near the chimney on Christmas Eve and hope that Santa will fill it with gifts like sweets during the night.

In the Guinness Books of Record, the world biggest Christmas stocking was the works of the supporters of The Children society. They create it on December 2007. It measured 32.56m long and 14.97 m wide, this is from the heel to the toe. It was over 6,000 square feet of red knitting.

The main purpose of the Christmas stockings was to help attract donation to The Children Society. During its creation it was able to be filled with 1000 presents which were later given to the Children society. Through sponsorship the massive Christmas stocking raised 33,000 Euros. The Christmas stocking was created as part of a Children Society knitting fundraising appeal.
