Dynamics GP eCommerce with Fulfillment on the Warehouse Floor

This publication assumes that your deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics, as Corporate ERP and Accounting system.  Let’s review Dynamics GP Distribution set of modules and how eCommerce-WMS bridge is realized in the proposed solution:
1. Distribution modules in Great Plains.  These are Inventory Control, Purchase Order Processing and Sales Order Processing (there are other modules, Purchase Generator, for example, outside of the scope for this publication).  These mentioned modules play key role in Warehouse Management System and eCommerce integration.  If in your eCommerce scenarios you do simple assembly on order or even more complex discrete manufacturing, please review Bill of Materials or full featured Manufacturing suite of modules, where Barcode scanning is also possible with reasonable custom programming
2. E-Commerce Shopping Cart image in Dynamics GP SOP module.  Either B2B or B2C Shopping cart goes to Great Plains as Sales Order Processing Invoice with Deposit (as Customer Credit, Debit card or Check Payment).  Here we use SOP Document Type without automatic allocation, as fulfillment (SOP document line allocation in Dynamics GP language)
3. How WMS sees e-commerce orders in real time?  This is possible, because Warehouse Management System is in essence Dynamics GP SOP, POP and Inventory modules extension and it reads and writes directly to SOP, Inventory and Purchase Order Processing transactions
4. If we have EDI and ecommerce B2B customers have only small percentage of our Sales?  If you are large wholesaler and your B2B customers place the order via EDI (Electronic Document Interchange) channel – we consider EDI order as somewhat very similar to ecommerce shopping cart.  We have special EDI automation add-on for Dynamics GP, where EDI is configurable via ftp, with options via email or http-post (which in our opinion is a bit obsolete, but still very reliable and honorable)
5. eCommerce Shopping Carts platforms supported.  We have strong believe, that ecommerce shopping carts, such as Magento, ASP .Net Storefront are very advanced and there is no need to reinvent the bicycle.  If you already have invested in Magento (PHP platform) or ASP .Net Storefront (Microsoft .Net), then you future investments should be in synch with former ones.  We give you wizard driven e-commerce module setup, where you can select your shopping cart platform, SOP Document Type, default ecommerce warehouse and other parameters
6. FAQ about Warehouse Management System and eCommerce modules.  Is it programmed in Great Plains Dexterity?  Partially, as it has two layers: WMS Server (which talks to Dynamics GP via ODBC connection) and WMS client (which runs directly on the Symbol or similar Barcode scanner – client logic is programmed in light weight VB).  Do you use eConnect in ecommerce integration?  No, we use Alba Spectrum Order Connector technology, which is simplified in its business logic, comparing to eConnect (we only allow the most popular logic, and we do not validate complete business logic, as eConnect does, and by doing so – we give you some advantages in integration performance)
