Out of the box GP has reasonable wholesaler business logic available in so-called Distribution set of modules: Sales Order Processing,Dynamics GP for Wholesale Industry: Barcoding, EDI Articles Purchase Order Processing, Inventory Control.  Some comments here – Corporate ERP application core, such as Dynamics GP is mostly software, while such additional components as Warehouse Management System, Supply Chain Management may include peripheral hardware components, such as Barcoding Scanners, Barcode Label Printers.  Electronic Document Interchange (EDI) in turn is also very dependent on your computer infrastructure and its configuration, such technologies as FTP, HTTP Post, email, sometimes you can deploy XML EDI format (however at this time XML is probably not the only and even dominant EDI method).  These comments are important for you to see the trends and general picture.  Corporate ERP software application is something that is available out-of-the-box and peripheral components of the Corporate ERP are sensitive to your nuances.  Let’s begin with Warehouse Management System:
1. WMS automates your Inventory replenishment, picking and packing on your Sales Orders from your customers and Merchandize move from one warehouse to another.  Warehouse Management System relies heavily on barcoding technology, where you may have various brands of scanners: Symbol, Zebra, etc.  WMS selection homework is about deciding if you like external standalone WMS with pretty much duplicated business logic (which you already paid for in Dynamics GP Distribution modules) or prefer to stick to just Warehouse Management Extensions for Dynamics GP.  There are pluses and minuses of both approaches and we cannot say which one is better for you before we do the discovery with your key decision making personnel.  If you would like more info on WMS extensions for Dynamics GP please read our earlier posts in google or yahoo
2. Electronic Document Interchange.  As we already mentioned the technology is very generic and you can have legacy EDI requirements where you have to stick to.  In our opinion it is easier to discuss the preferred or possible EDI methods directly.  EDI could be programmed on SQL Server precise select statement level, or we have Dynamics GP Dexterity add-ons, where EDI is available for setup with FTP server
3. Wholesale reordering via ecommerce.  This method is growing in its popularity.  If your customers or franchisees re reordering the merchandize via ecommerce web site (in B2B ecommerce model), we are happy to help you with such ecommerce shopping cart platforms as Magento, ASP .Net Storefront
