If you already have GP implemented in your organization,Dynamics GP Partner California: Great Plains Reporting Articles we are offering Dynamics GP reporting highlights in this small publication, written for technical people in your IT department:

1.       GP Reporting Tools.  You have pretty wide selection: FRx for financial reporting (Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Statement, Statement of Cash Flow), Report Writer for existing reports modifications, Crystal Reports, SSRS for advanced (usually not financial) industry reports.  If you are comfortable with MS Access reports, Excel, or any other ODBC compliant reporting tool, you should be able to use it as well for Industry reports

2.       FRx.  This reporting tool allows you reasonably quickly design Financial statements, plus with FRx you can work with Consolidated reporting (either multiple companies or one company with multiple divisions or product lines).  FRx also supports Excel worksheets, typically useful when you are consolidating your main company with smaller branches, where you are receiving summaries in Excel

3.       GP ReportWriter.  You usually modify existing reports, such as SOP Blank Invoice Form by placing your company graphical logo file on the left top side.  You also may need to alter such reports as Trial Balance, Sales Tax Report, etc.  RW is Dynamics GP Dexterity based module and it is restricted in its table linking power to the Dex preset rules

4.       Crystal Reports.  Good taste in our opinion is SQL call separation from the report design itself.  In such model you first test your report logic via SQL Stored Procedure or View result set in SQL Management Studio.  When you are satisfied with results, you finish your report in CR Designer.  This approach should be preferred over the temptation to use Crystal Report wizard, especially for complex report logic, and if you want to eliminate annoying results rows duplication, etc.

5.       SSRS, MS Access, Excel, and other tools.  If you follow the rules, drawn in paragraph #5, you will see that reporting tool is not a critical point
