Dynamics GP Shipping and Receiving Automation Notes

We are continuing set of publications on Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise.  It is common to extend Dynamics GP automation with Supply Chain Management, Transportation and Logistics, Consignment, Warehouse Management Add-ons.  

We assume that you already tired to shop around to see if one of the existing Dynamics GP ISV supported custom modules could do the job for you and the answer is likely Not, or if you deploy existing add-ons - it will also require to be further modified to fit your unique business processes and requirements.  We name our approaches the Solutions, meaning that we have proven programming codes and they are ready for you to be deployed at your site by our programmers or your internal IT software developers.  Here are the highlights:

1.       Barcode automation.  Naturally you may need barcode item labels to be printed upon the merchandise receipt (Purchase Receipt against Purchase Orders matching by PO line in GP)  These labels will become your new items passports in your inventory count, shipping to the customers, Retail Point of Sale operations, etc.  You can deploy either modified Report Writer reports, Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), or any other reporting tool: MS Access, Excel.  The custom point here is how to compose barcode algorithm - in advanced scenarios we see customer need to base barcode on Inventory Item Number combined with Lot Number (if you have the batch of similar items from your vendor, such as Jewelry, Handcraft) or Serial Number (this is common in food and meat processing industry and retail:  deli stores, mid-size retailers, food distribution, farmer cooperatives)

2.       Barcoding in Shipping and Order Allocations.  In Dynamics GP you create customer Sales Order or Invoice and then if you have separate batch or single document allocation procedures you print Inventory Picking Ticket or Picking List, and send Inventory worker to the warehouse with barcode scanner.  If you need state of the art Great Plains Supply Chain Management solution, picking ticket printing process may initiate automatic item release and placing into conveyer belt.  In most of the midsize and small business Logistics operations this could be done by hand, including picking and packing with Barcode scanning

3.       Transportation and Logistics in Dynamics GP.  In that industry niche we often see Agent Settlement report need, where your shipping subcontractors are customers and vendors at the same billing cycle.  We recommend you to deploy GP Customer Vendor Consolidation module, available with Dynamics GP Advanced Management licensing purchase
