Due to the fact that Microsoft Business Solutions deploys annual enhancement program requirements,Great Plains Dynamics on Ctree and Pervasive SQL Support review Articles if customer is not paying annual fee, it loses the option to get new version registration key and places itself in higher cost brackets for support cases, if support placed through MBS tech support department.  In this small article we give you highlights on supporting GP on Pervasive SQL and Ctree:

1.       Ctree – what is it?   This is and was free DB platform, which is not supporting SQL client-server platform, and rather the Ctree workstation handles the request on file level, making request and listening the response from the server through Windows (or Macintosh) operating system mechanisms

2.       Btrieve – what is it?  Btrieve Technologies was acquired by Pervasive Technologies, this is why it is also known as Pervasive SQL (2000).  In comparison to Ctree Pervasive SQL has Server side component, which helps you to expedite response from the remote computer, or server.  In our opinion, as a lot of time gone since GPS and its successor Microsoft stopped support both Ctree and Btrieve – the performance is probably not as critical as it was used to be.  Today the question is about how to recover, move to different server, upgrade from these old versions to latest GP 10.0

3.       Location Translation “Breaking Through”.  This topic is one of the most popular in the internet chats, where modern GP consultants say that they have no idea on what location translation is and how to move old Ctree GP to new computer.  Location Translation was a key concept for Great Plains Dynamics Dexterity architecture and you should look for professionals who are familiar with this cornerstone.

4.       Upgrade Path.  The best approach is upgrade from GP on Ctree to current version of Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 on Microsoft SQL Server 2005.  Upgrade include the migration step where we need to deploy migration tool
