How to protect PC and Registry?

This article is about how to protect your computer from being attacked by viruses, Trojans and hackers. There is some manual methods. If you want to achieve that in securely, you can choose a good registry cleaner that will be much helpful.

Due to the computer registry is so powerful, some junks also hide in it. Sometimes viruses and Trojans also hide in registry and damage the operating system secretly. How to protect the computer from being attacked by viruses and Trojans? This will be discussed.

It is necessary and important to do a backup for the registry before any modification is made to the registry.

1. Reject spam emails.

In Windows 2000/XP systems, the default Messenger service is active. Malicious messages can be sent to the target computer by “net send” command. That the target computer receives the harassment of others from time to time will affect normal use seriously.
Solution: First, open the Registry Editor. We can manage the system services through the various options under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services" in the registry. Each sub-key is corresponding to the "services" of the system, such as "Messenger" service corresponds to the sub- key "Messenger". As long as we find the START key under the Messenger and change the value to 4, the service will be disabled; users will no longer be harassed by the malicious messages.

2. Close "Remote Registry Service"
If a hacker connects to our computers and the remote registry service is enabled on our computer, the hacker can remotely set the registry service. You can image what will happen, so the Remote Registry Service needs special protection. We can disable the Remote Registry Service. However, computer hackers still can change the service from "disabled" into "auto-start." Therefore, we need to remove the service.

Locate the option “RemoteRegistry” under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services", right click the options and select "Delete" (Figure 1). This service can’t be enabled after deletion.

The methods above are only two ways to protect your computer. If you know little about computer registry, it is strongly advised that you purchase a registry cleaner to protect and fix your computer registry. It is not so safe to change registry keys manually. If there is any wrong modification, your computer may be crashed. A good registry cleaner will be much helpful.
