When computer is referred to, it is inevitable to talk about computer registry which is like the brain of a computer. That how to protect it has come into many computer users’ mind. Do back up the registry when you do any change to it. The following methods are provided to you about how to protect the computer registry.

1.      Disable the service “default share”

We all know that the system opens some services about sharing, such as IPC $, c $, d $, e $ and admin $, by default in Windows 2000/XP/2003. Many hackers and viruses invade user’s computer by these sharing service. In order to prevent that, you need to change the value of RestrictAnonymous under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control LSA" to 1. Thus IPC $ connection can be disabled.

2.      Prevent system privacy leak

When an error occurs in Windows, a DR.WATSON procedure in the system will automatically save the private information and keep them in the file user.dmp and drwtsn32.log. An attacker can crack this program to steal the user’s private information. In order to avoid that, we should do as the following steps: Find the item "HKEY_LOACL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft WindowsNT CurrentVersion AeDebug" in the registry and set the key of AUTO to 0. At the same time, click "Documents and Settings ’ ALL Users ’ Documents ’ drwatson", find and delete the files user.dmp and drwtsn32.log. Your system private information will not be stolen by doing this.

Though you can protect your computer and registry by changing some settings in the registry, it is not safe to do that. If any wrong change is made to the registry, your computer may be crashed. The most secure way is to protect and fix the registry problems with a reliable registry cleaner. A high quality registry cleaner can help you a lot. It is necessary that there is a function that can backup the registry before any change is made to the registry. In case anything wrong appears, it can be restored to the previous normal working status.
