Great Plains or as it is currently known Microsoft Dynamics GP could be deployed in generic or custom Supply Chain Management scenario, where the solution is based on Barcode scanning and integration technologies.
You may consider two approached for Distribution automation system for your Corporate ERP application. First is completely external system,
which is integrated with several Great Plains modules: POP, SOP and Inventory via either automatic connectors or via Integration Manager preset integrations. Second one is extending existing Dynamics GP modules with Barcode scanning automation simple screens, where all the records are saved and retrieved in Great Plains SQL database. Second approach allows you to capitalize on your existing investments into your Dynamics GP Corporate ERP software licenses, as you will be managing Barcode scanned documents directly in Great Plains Distributions related modules: editing, approving, posting, inquiring and even reporting. Plus this approach allows you to avoid WMS (Warehouse Management System) integration programming and implementation phase (as the proposed WMS solution is integrated automatically by its nature). 1. Purchase Receipts in WMS. Microsoft Dynamics GP naturally handles merchandize replenishment in Purchase Order Processing (POP) Purchase Receipt documents. All you need to do here to enable barcoding is to program Barcode scanner screen with simple but reliable step-by-step Merchandise Receipt document scanning: starting with document header (vendor ID, vendor invoice number, date, etc.) and then merchandise items line-by-line. You can optionally even scan Lot Numbers, if the item you are receiving is lot numbered. Purchase Receipt document is created automatically in Great Plains POP modules in real time and could be reviewed and posted by GP user later on or immediately after
2. Order Fulfillment in WMS. Here you are looking at Great Plains Sales Order Allocation (or line fulfillment) functionality. We enable it in our Warehouse Management System add-on for Barcode automation. Lot Number picking is optional
3. Inventory Site-to-Site transfers and Cycle counts in WMS. Here Barcoding technology is helping WMS operator to send transactions directly to Inventory transfer or Inventory Cycle Count documents
4. Bonus functionality: WMS and eCommerce integration. This will be one of the demos on Convergence 2010 as well. eCommerce module naturally sends Shopping Cart to GP Sales Invoice (or Sales Order) and our Barcode based Logistics (WMS) system fulfills the order, see paragraph #2 via barcode scanning

6. International Support for WMS and Distributions add-ons. If you your country Microsoft Dynamics GP is localized, we should be able to implement our WMS, SCM and Distribution extensions for Great Plains. To set your expectations, Dynamics GP 11 is localized in USA, Canada (including French Canadian version in Quebec), South Africa, New Zealand, UK, Australia, Oceania, Spanish speaking Mexico, Central and South America, Caribbean. There is reasonably robust Arabic version of Microsoft Dynamics GP. If GP is not localized in your country or region, we recommend you to take a look at SAP Business One: Brazil, Russia, China, Germany and most of the Continental Europe.
