Microsoft Dynamics GP Integration with Counterpoint POS Notes

As you may be aware - Counterpoint is hosted in Microsoft SQL Server and it deploys DTS packages to export data from Counterpoint company DB and prepare text files for the following import to Great Plains via Integration Manager.

Data Transformation Services packages were popular with MS SQL Server 2000, and in SQL 2005 DTS was deemphasized, and as DTS is still needed to be available on MS SQL Server 2005, please read this small publication for some clarifications:
1. DTS Support on MS SQL Server 2005.  In order to install DTS support logic, you will need to install Client Components, select advanced options and mark Legacy Components.  Even if you install Legacy Components you may get the following message opening Counterpoint integration DTS package: Install SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components.  As in our case we were working on the production server, we decided to find work around and simply tried to update DTS package in MS SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager.  In the case, where SQL Server and Instance name stay the same, all you need to do is to update sa password.  If you do so - old SQL 2000 Counterpoint DTS package will work with MS SQL Server 2005 Counterpoint Database (and you do not have to modify Counterpoint Export to Great Plains interface in CP)
2. Advanced Counterpoint to Dynamics GP integration programming.  In Counterpoint you can decide to deploy User Defined fields, and those fields are not included in out-of-the-box Counterpoint DTS packages.  If you need to deploy User Defined fields, you would have to alter DTS package stored procedures.  In our case we included Counterpoint General Ledger integration to Great Plains - daily POS Transactions and Payments with user defined fields.  But, as general observation - Counterpoint DTS packages seems to be very flexible platform for custom data export and import into your targeted back office or Corporate ERP application, so if you have more challenging integration requirements, we are willing to review your case.  For example, for those of you how would like to implement real time Counterpoint to Dynamics GP integration  we should be able to help you to program integration in Dynamics GP eConnect.  We also are comfortable to help you with Counterpoint integration to SAP Business One 8.8, 2007A or 2005A via SB1 Data Transformation Workbench (or SAP Business One SDK programming, if you prefer luxury solution)
3. Local Counterpoint to Dynamics GP Integration support.  We have both Great Plains and Counterpoint consultants in Chicago metropolitan area and happy to help you there.  We are ready to work with your Counterpoint domestic consultants in your area via remote support web sessions and phone conferences to design challenging integrations to Great Plains Dynamics GP.  We also support other POS and Retail applications platforms, for example Microsoft RMS, where we have our own integration solution to Great Plains
