Let me share the experience which I have got while using the computer system,‘No bootable device’- what does it mean and how to fix it? Articles I have brought a brand new computer but after a six month usage, one day, early in the morning when I wish to open the computer to listen music I saw a message popping up at  screen displaying ‘no bootable device found’. I got jerked, tried my best to fix it but failed, and then I work on this issue, take help from internet and my friends, and came to know about various issues and ways to fix them. This article is to make you aware regarding this message and best possible ways to fix it.

The message 'No Bootable device - Insert Boot Disc and Press any Key' or 'No Boot Device Available' is displayed by BIOS, when it cannot find an operating system to load from any storage medium on the PC. Computer has an inbuilt software known as BIOS (basic input output system), which is independent of operating system. ‘Booting’ is the actual loading of the operating system executed by BIOS. The operating system files are installed in the boot device which is storage medium like a floppy disk, hard drive, CD, DVD or a USB flash drive. If this device is not located or the operating system has issues, you got this pop up error message. Make it sure that the default booting option in BIOS is set to booting device which you are using. I have set it to the hard drive and going to discussed about it.

The possible causes and ways to fix this problem are as follows,

1.     Operating system file corruption:

Sometimes installed operating system on the hard drive got crashed, due to virus attack, accidental deletion of the system files or accidental compression of the system drive, which result in this pop up error message because the os cannot be recognized.

Solution:

The best way out is to load the recovery disc or CD of your operating system in your computer's optical drive and run a complete reinstallation or repair.

2.    Hard drive disconnected:

Sometimes hard drive got physically disconnected or loose from the motherboard, which result in such an error message because the BIOS cannot find it. To check these enter BIOS setting by pressing the appropriate key F1, F2 or any other according to your system configuration during the start up.

Solution:

Open your computer cabinet, and check the connection between the hard drive and the motherboard, fix it if it is loose.

3.    Hard drive crash:

If the hard drive got crashed due to physical damage, creation of bad sectors, electrical fluctuation, dust accumulation and physical shocks, this error message bubbled up.

Solution:

Replace the hard drive and test the damaged hard drive for the bad sectors. If the damage is not high, it can be used as a secondary storage medium.
