With globalization we now see the pattern when compact and even reasonably small company establishes production and distribution channels worldwide and by doing so it obtains legitimate attributes of the multinational corporation.

In order to sell or produce in Asia or South America,SAP Business One as Global Worldwide ERP Solution Articles company has to open subsidiaries in these regions.  Multinational company historically was associated with high end Corporate ERP solution such as Oracle Financials, Axapta or SAP R3.  However if the number of AR, AR and General Ledger users doesn’t exceed one hundred the budget might be too small in attempting to acquire high end ERP package.  At the same time SAP B1 might be the best pick and let’s take a look at its advantages:

1. User interface support in major world languages including Chinese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish.  This list is not complete as we are just giving you the idea.  Business One supports Unicode based alphabets or in other words hieroglyphs.  You can switch user interface without the need to log off let’s say from Portuguese to English and have you internal auditors in the headquarters do the job for Brazilian subsidiary.  Or you can associate default language with named user for convenience

2. Foreign Country Legislation Compliance.  Let’s think about United States compliance first.  Are you familiar with such things as 1099, W2 and W4 forms?  How about sales tax reporting?  Now think about sovereign foreign country.  They also have their own parliament and law makers.  And they often have pretty strict mechanisms to control purchasing activity or in other words what 1099 mechanism does.  Instead of Sales Tax we often see Value Added Tax or VAT.  If accounting application is not marketed in the specific country it is often very difficult if not to say impossible to make it compliant to local tax code and regulation and keep it in compliance as time goes.  Good news is the fact that Business One is compliant in majority of the regions and this compliance is maintained directly by SAP

3. Typical mistakes in ERP implementation.  IT strategy is not an easy thing to create and pursue.  Let’s assume that you are compact multinational company and your headquarters is in USA or Canada.  At this point you are opening manufacturing facility in Brazil and as SAP BO is localized there you are suggesting your Brazilian controller to locate B1 consulting firm there and do the job.  Controller over there thinks about the following factors.  Great! We are implementing brand name accounting software.  I’ll have my own consultants, my local server and certain level of autonomy in my office.  We will design our own chart of accounts, our own workflow and procedures.  Then you are at the point to open office in China and then in Russian Federation.  Everywhere you can find local consulting organization and each country has its own customized implementation.  Now sitting in the headquarters five months later you are thinking about such things as Consolidated P&L and Balance Sheet, internal audit and state and federal reporting.  Even considering the fact that you have Business One implemented everywhere these implementations are not integrated and the way to get reports from your foreign facilities is probably via custom Excel spreadsheets

4. Centralized Deployment.  And now who we would recommend it.  Install Business One on the MS SQL Server in the headquarters and have all foreign subsidiaries databases to be hosted here.  Application server should sit here as well and be exposed to international users via Terminal Server or Citrix technologies.  Pick consulting partner here in the North America and have this company to help you work out templates for chart of accounts, procedures and workflow.  Then simply clone these templates for each foreign branch.  For the purpose of tax code compliance have your US based consulting partner contact local SB1 practices and subcontract them.  Now you have all the companies having similar features and ready for automated consolidated reporting, internal, state and federal audit.  IT is in complete control over your Corporate ERP application, database and infrastructure and there is no overhead in supporting servers in the foreign countries
