If you are local business in Moscow then your accounting application might be 1C. However if you are part of the multinational company then 1C might be not too transparent for internal audit and not too friendly for consolidated financial reporting.

At this time of December 2011 there might be reasonable feeling of uncertainty as president elections should happen in earlier March of 2012.  But we do believe that whoever wins the rally Putin or Prokhorov the result will be in pacifying concerns in corporate business for the next six years.  This article is intended for IT directors in multinational corporations opening or planning to open facilities in Russian capitals and regions including Siberia,SAP Business One as Russian ERP for Multinational Corporation Articles Yakutia and Far East.  This paper is written in the genre of small topics:

1. Siberian mineral resources.  Whatever happens in Russian Federation the trend is visible and it is in removing barriers for people to travel here and RF citizens to travel worldwide.  World Trade Organization membership is good example of this trend.  Mining in Yakutia needs western technologies and investments.  The best way of penetration on the market is acquisition and here you are facing the dilemma of ERP and accounting system to retain managerial and financial control

2. The Options.  RF ERP market is pretty competitive where we see such players as Microsoft Dynamics AX, Oracle, SAP and several local packages including its leader 1C.  In the United States Microsoft Business Solutions has huge number of Dynamics GP or former Great Plains Dynamics installations.  Our company pioneered with Great Plains localization for the market in Moscow back in 1996.  Unfortunately later on Microsoft Business Solutions as successor of Great Plains Software changed its mind and tried to push Navision and later on Axapta which was renamed into Dynamics AX in mid 2000th  Axapta might be too complex to be implemented for reasonably small facility and we would recommend small business application SAP Business One

3. Some words about SAP B1.  Let’s think first about accounting application localization concept.  Do we have to care about such issues as tax rates changes or should they be sent to us on a regular base?  Good question and in the case of Business One you just need to apply patches.  Language is supported and you can specify default language interface for named user.  How do we implement consolidated financial reporting?  Consider the way of exporting GL trial balance to Excel and then using this export as GL summary in reporting trees in such tools as FRx or Microsoft Management Reporter.  Is SAP BO open for customizations and integrations?  Consider Microsoft Visual Studio C# or VB.Net programming with SDK code samples.  When you are talking about integration we recommend you to take a look first at Data Transfer Workbench and if it doesn’t do the job call ISV partners such as iBolt

4. Regions.  Here the critical question is ‘who will be our consultant in the sense of being available onsite?’  Our consulting guru Andrew Karasev has several residence places including United States and Russia and he speaks perfect English and Russian as his native language.  If you agree to pay travel expenses we are ready to send Andrew onsite
