At this time we see revolutionary changes in Corporate ERP software market where such technologies as web client and Cloud computing and licensing schemas are emerging. Cloud computing itself allows your offices work with the same database virtually worldwide assuming that internet performance is good enough.

There are some concerns from the stand point of getting your accounting application tailored via custom programming and interface modification as Cloud hosting provider has to be conservative in letting software developers access the server with unapproved codes.  But we believe that these issues and concerns should be minimized in the future by getting progress in such areas as database and application encapsulations.  Business One allows you customizations in the forms of user defined fields and tables with automatically created user interfaces directly in settings:

1. User Defined Fields and Tables.  By transferring metadata into SQL Server database it is now possible to create user defined objects on the company database level.  The idea to expose newly created fields and tables via simple automatic user interface is probably not a new one but very interesting and elegant solution.  Please,SAP Business One Customization Readiness and International Aspects Articles note that you can physically add fields to existing tables, such as marketing documents title and rows.  New user defined tables could be deployed for custom data entry and modification.  This option should enable these fields on custom Crystal reporting or in Sap B1 queries

2. Software Development Kit.  Custom objects are great news but it is often the case that you need their participation in automatic integrations and updates.  Here you have SDK programming opportunities in Microsoft Visual Studio VB or C# projects where you can appeal to code snippets.  In SDK project you can reference user defined objects.  Please be aware that you need your project source code in order to upgrade to the future version where you have to recompile the project in the environment where both Visual Studio and new release of SB1 are installed.  You as programmer are not restricted to C# or VB as long as you are comfortable to read sample codes in these languages and translate them into your language of choice.  We have seen examples where coding was done in Delphi

3. Cross Platform Integration programming via SOAP XML Web Service.  In MS Visual Studio Web Service project you are positioned to expose custom integration to be called from non-Microsoft operating system such as Linux with popular ecommerce hosting in MySQL/PHP environment

4. International Corporate ERP application.  We see astonishing efforts directly from SAP by localizing its SAP BO in major world regions and adopting such languages as Chinese, Korean, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish.  With version 8.8X you do not longer have to maintain two SQL Servers in order to host A and B flavors (which was recommended in releases of 2007 and 2005).  Versions 8.81 and 8.8 could be deployed on the same SQL Server and exposed to overseas offices for full featured data entry via such technologies as Citrix or Microsoft Terminal Server

5. Competition.  There are several sides.  From more expensive user licenses we see it from Microsoft Dynamics ERP family especially from Dynamics GP.  There is also competition from NetSuite as these people are pioneering with web client interface and it is by this means computer platform neutral and doesn’t require additional investments into such technologies as Citrix.  Sage is also active and we see Peachtree and QuickBooks coming from the small business ERP market up to mid-market and corporate clientele
