Let’s begin with management level questions such as ‘how to retain control over accounting,SAP Business One Implementation in Russian Regions when you are Multinational Corporation Articles financial reporting, purchasing and sales processes?’  One of the reasons why you are reading this paper is probably desire not to implement local ERP package such as 1C.  Business One is definitely open to your internal auditors and it is possible to find consultants in the United States who are familiar with Russian user interface.  Let’s take a look at other recommendations:

1. Where should we purchase licenses in Moscow or in the United States?  There are nuances.  If you acquire software in Russia then there might be restrictions on where Windows and SQL Server should be hosted.  In other words it should be likely local office with its IT resources.  We would rather recommend license purchasing in the USA.  In this scenario you can host the server in the headquarters and secure future deployments of Business One for the branches in other countries and not only in RF.  Remote connection technologies such as Citrix or Microsoft Terminal Server could be considered for opening interface to users somewhere in Yakutia.  Reasonably reliable internet connection is commodity nowadays

2. User Training in regions.  Travel cost assuming that consultant is flying from Moscow is comparable to if the guy is taking flight from Chicago.  However the advantage of having US based consultant who is native Russian is strong understanding of American business culture and fluent English.  We also see the need to fly out only once to shake hands and establish relations with key managers and users.  Following consulting could be done via web sessions such as GotoMeeting and we would think that Moscow based consultant would do the same or otherwise support cost is very high

3. Let’s take a look at SAP B1 itself.  It has Russian user interface and localized in this region in the sense of being compliant to tax code and business related legislation.  Competition in RF is between B1, Dynamics AX formerly known as Axapta and 1C Bukhgalteria.  Business One is good where you have midmarket or small subsidiary in manufacturing, warranty contracts or generic business model.  If you have huge production plant then you may take a look at Dynamics AX

4. Server Hosting Architecture.  With version 8.8X SAP BO merged former A and B flavors and for you this means that you can now host all your international companies on the same SQL Server.  In the past for example American and Brazilian versions were A and B.  We see the advantage of centralized server with remote users where you can implement consolidated financial and managerial reporting and provide such services as backup and recovery for all your international offices

5. Crossing the border to Kazakhstan and China.  In Kazakhstan you may expect good knowledge of Russian language and the culture in accounting departments are similar.  Business One supports Unicode standard and user interface is available in Chinese hieroglyphs
