1. Is a Free Trial Offered?

The first thing you need to ask when looking at backup software is whether or not a free trial is offered. If the answer is no, keep looking. 2. What Type of Storage Is Utilized?
 Some people will save their files to a jump drive while others prefer discs. Some people go in a different direction altogether and prefer to store their backup files remotely online.

Determine how you prefer to store your backup files and use a backup program that is compatible with that decision. If, for example, you want to store your files on CD but a product only offers online storage of your files you'll want to look elsewhere.

3. Which Information Is Backed Up?

Not all backup software is the same and some is more comprehensive than others. Avoid products that only back up your documents and media files. If you're buying backup and recovery software it's best to invest in a product that will also back up your computer settings and other critical information.
