Are you one of the many folks that have their MCSE 2000 cerfication? If you are considering the upgrade to get your MCSE 2003 certification look no further than this article to educate you on what is required. There are many benefits to obtaining your MCSE and maintaining the certification. Many employers still rely on professional certifications to guage the skill of potential employees. If you are already employed,Upgrading Your MCSE 2000 Certification Articles certifications may separate you from the pack in that promotion you have seeking. In this article we will cover the MCSE 2003 requirements, possible training sources, preparing for the exam, and the viability of boot camps for upgrading your MCSE certification. If you already have your MCSE 2000 certification you can simply take two (2) exams to obtain your MCSE 2003 certification. These two exams are Exam 70-992 which covers managing and maintaining a Windows 2003 server environment. The second is exam 70-296. This is the more advanced exam that gets into planning, architecting and maintaining a Windows 2003 server environment. The second test is by far the most difficult but is doable especially if you have hands on experience. If you are considering taking either of these exams, I recommend that you install the Windows 2003 server and go through all the standard administrative screens so you have a deep understanding of the Windows 2003 operating system and system functions such as DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory.

If you require training for your MCSE 2003 upgrade there are many excellent training sources. The Microsoft curriculum is very good but I would recommend you combine that with hands on training in your own lab or an online lab from a company such as Element K. Even Microsoft has online training labs you can leverage if you don’t want to build your own lab at home. The key to these exams is hands on experience. Another training option is to attend an online or accelerated training course. Many local community colleges and computer training schools offer these courses. These are great alternatives but still I can’t stress enough the need to hammer away at your own lab to get a feel for the terminology and administrative tools.

After you have taken the initial training and have your lab up and running it is now time to prepare for the exam. Microsoft is keen on testing real world skills and scenarios. This is especially true on the 70-296 exam. You will see scenario questions that require you to understand all the working pieces of the Windows Server 2003 environment. As you prepare run through scenarios as if you are setting up a real environment from scratch. This includes configuring Active Directory, Creating trust, setting up DNS, and configuring Group Policy. A great way to prepare is to buy some sample test with study guides from Transcenders. These tests are very much like the final exam questions and will give you some context in studying and experimenting in your own lab.

Many IT professionals are limited on time to prepare for the MCSE 2003 upgrade exams. A great way to accelerate the learning is to attend a Boot Camp. These are one to two week courses where you study at a rapid pace and take the exams onsite. The advantages of this approach are that you can accomplish your goal in a very short time. The downfall is that if you don’t have a great foundation you will only become “book smart”. Remember the goal is to obtain a certification that reflects your real world knowledge. If you have the knowledge but just need to set some dedicated time aside this may be the solution for you.

In conclusion, the MCSE 2003 upgrade is well worth your time. Many employers running Windows based networks need skilled and certified engineers. Certification will show your employer that you are skilled in maintaining their networks and you have the credentials to prove it.

Best of look on the the exam!
