In the past, SQL backup programs were extremely complicated to use, and because of that, a lot of companies bought them but few of them used them. Now, however, the programs are affordable and extremely easy to use and it doesn't take a lot of specialized knowledge to run one. You don't need a computer engineering degree in order to back up your SQL server.

The reasons why you might need an SQL backup program running on your server are almost too numerous to mention. The first thing that people think of is a natural disaster. If your building is subject to a power surge from a storm, or succumbs to a flood, a fire, a hurricane, or a tornado, it goes without saying that having a backup would be a good idea.

However, there are also many other reasons why you might want one, the first of which is your own knowledge of SQL. It seems that many people think they know what they are doing on their own server, only to realize that their knowledge is a little more limited than they had thought. They make mistakes that wipe out data, cut off users from their own data, or even take down the entire system.

When you have a backup that you can go to, it is like an insurance policy for your data. You will always have somewhere to go to when your data is lost, when it becomes corrupted, or when a virus attacks your system.
