Advice On How to Pick and Frame Online Dating Profile Picture

Your profile picture is probably the most important part of your dating profile and as such that is exactly where most of the mistakes are made. Most of the following is just common sense. But it pays to be reminded anyways.

 

1. Guys, no shirtless pictures. They are juvenile. Save them for when they are needed. Way later into a relationship.
2. Ladies, keep the overtly sexual pictures off your profile. You do not want someone who is just interested in your body and you certainly do not want 1000’s of guys sending you messages day in and day out. Flooding your inbox making it way too tough to find a decent guy.
3.  The profile pictures are usually very small. So always have something that can be scaled down but can still be clear.
4. Good, natural close ups work best. When you pop up on someone’s search results, your picture is going to be very small and the picture wouldn’t be clear unless it is a close-up.
5. Keep the picture natural. You do not need a professionally done picture. Unless you really have no other pictures, do not use a professional picture. Get a buddy of yours to take a few pictures in a natural setting. Then scale it down and crop to get the nice close-up that you need.
6. Always have a couple of pictures from a few angles. A different angle might appeal to someone and they might approach you when you change to that. Keep rotating between them to give yourself a better chance.
7. Make sure that you picture contrasts a little with the background. If you are really white and the background is similar, it will be difficult to make out your features and might put someone off.
8.  Make sure the photo has good lighting. Lighting can make the picture look upbeat and cheerful or depressing. You want a cheerful picture not one that looks like you were smiling at a funeral.
9. Get a picture that can convey your personality. This is best achieved when the photo is taken naturally.
10. Photos taken during a hobby of yours can express your personality better than any other setting.

At the end of the day, your profile will have more pictures than just the main profile pictures. This is where you express more about yourself. Make use of it. Upload a few pictures which can convey what kind of person you are. What things you like to do. How you look in certain clothes.

Get creative. The whole point is to be yourself and being presentable and interesting. Shirtless pictures for guys and overtly sexual pictures for women are a recipe for disaster. So I repeat it, do not use those anywhere in your profile.
