Okay you love the Food Network just as much as the next person and you've come up with some pretty creative and delicious meal ideas. However once in a while you still like to leave the cooking to someone else i.e. a good restaurant. So how do you deal with the expense in the harsh economic times?

There's something galling about rich executives taking private planes to Washington D.C. so they can sit before Congress,Dating On A Budget: Going Out To Eat Articles hat in hand, begging for money to save an industry which they themselves went a long way to screwing up. Helping the working class is one thing. Throwing a lifeline to the greedy incompetent is another.

And what about our bailout? The price of everything continues to skyrocket but no government official is knocking on any of our doors to hand us a nice fat bailout check.

So due to the economic conditions right now and probably for the foreseeable future, many of us are going to have to be pretty close fisted with our money and that includes going out on a date.

It doesn't mean you and your dating partner sit at home all the time eating off brand hot dogs and chicken noodle soup or that the nearest fast food place becomes the cuisine of choice.

You can still take in a nice restaurant every now and then while saving yourself and your date some money.

1. The Early Bird

You and your date have got the day off and when you hook up for a meal it may usually be in the evening. See if it is okay with them to change up the schedule once in a while so as to take advantage of some of those early bird specials. More than a few eateries offer special discounts before the evening rush kicks in.

Another thing about the early bird is you can sometimes have the place all to yourself. You and your date can communicate a lot easier without having to compete with a lot of background conversations.

2. Of The Day

Maybe it's clam chowder at half price or a whole platter that's thirty percent off. Whatever it is, check out the meal of the day. Of course if they are offering corn flakes and bran muffin then it's more than okay to take a pass but many places offer specials that are delicious filling and more importantly wallet friendly.

3. Water is Fine

Ugh. We know it's good for us and all that jazz but for more than a few people it's the equivalent of kryptonite to Superman. The problem is those other beverages can add up. A couple of bucks for soda, coffee or tea and that's only for one. If you want to have something with alcohol look out. Not saying you have to do it all the time but it's give water a try every now and then and discover how much you will save.

Yes, the early bird specials, meal of the day and water can put a serious cramp in your normal dating lifestyle. Remember it's not permanent and it doesn’t have to be that way every time the two of you go out. But things being how they are any amount you can save now will only help you out in the dating relationship later.
