Should you take a chance on a set-up date?

Blind dating. Some singles would never dare. Others are willing to give it a try. Before you throw the concept out the window, remember that a lot of successful couples met through a blind date.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber met on a blind date, as did Pete Sampras and his beloved actress wife and former Miss Teen USA Bridgette Wilson.

Some people think that meeting someone through one of the many dating websites or in singles chat rooms is a blind date. But it's not quite the case because first of all, you're not being match-made through a friend, and second, you've already had some online contact before you meet. And you've most likely seen each other's photos - which defeats the meaning of a blind date!

However, do take some cues from dating sites before going on a set-up date…If you've agreed to go on a blind date, a great idea is to try to break the ice before you meet face-to-face, it's a similar concept as meeting someone online – get the person's email address and start to chat to them online. This way you can get to know each other beforehand, and get a bit of a gut feeling.
