The Favorite Holidays Of Russian Women

Any person who is married or has ever been married would confirm that the marriage takes a lot of work, compromise, dedication and commitment. Things are getting more complicated when it comes to an international marriage.

People in Russia and Ukraine are very traditional, especially when it comes to big life events, celebrations and holidays. Every big holiday has its own traditions that are dozens of years old.

 

One of the most popular holidays is the 8th of March - International Women Day. It’s the holiday for girls and women of any age. As a tradition all men congratulate all women in their lives: co-workers, teachers, daughters, mothers, wives, girl-friends and so on. On this day every woman receives presents: love poems, flowers, perfumes, signs of admiration, etc. The present does not have to be expensive. It is important to show attention and make a woman feel special. On the 8th of March women are not allowed to work at all. Men do all work: clean the house, cook a holiday meal or arrange a night in the restaurant.

 

Another holiday that is followed with many traditions is Easter. A lot of people, even not very religious, prepare for the Easter keeping the Lent. The Thursday before Easter week-end is called “Clean Thursday”. On this day Ukrainian and Russian ladies clean the house, prepare presents for family members and friends, cook a lot of tasty dishes. The most common tradition is to bake sweet pastries, called “Kulichi” or “Pasha” and dye the eggs red.  On the Easter morning most of people go to the church for the mass and also bless the food. After the church, they return home, all the family gets together for the big Easter dinner. Another Easter tradition is to greet each other with words “Kristos Voskres”, which means Christ is alive and kiss on the cheeks three times.

 

The most favorite holidays of Russians are the New Year and Christmas celebration. They believe that the way you celebrate the New Year, the same way you will live it. That is why Russian women prepare huge meal with an abundance of dishes, a lot of champagne, red and black caviar; Russians necessarily dress new clothes, buy many presents for family and close people. The New Year is usually celebrated with friends, but Christmas is celebrated with family and parents. Christmas in Russia is celebrated on the 7th of January. On Christmas eve or in the morning people go to church. After the church family members get together, exchange presents, have a dinner.
