Are Erotic Books and Pornographic Memorabilia Good Collectors’ Items?

Can collecting pornographic memorabilia be a good investment? A new report looks deeper into this question.

The expansion of the internet and the overall availability of digital media has changed many industries lately. This has obviously been the case with erotica as well. Finding nude pictures, erotic stories, as well as adult oriented movies in hundreds of genres is only a click away, so many are wondering whether the world of erotica has turned into something that is just “disposable” where nothing is really worth saving as a collectible anymore. This is definitely a legitimate question and can also be applied in other, more mainstream fields as well. With digital delivery of content on the rise, people are getting their entertainment, such as movies and music delivered digitally, straight to their computer, smart phone or television. Fewer and fewer DVDs and music CDs are being sold due to the popularity of services like iTunes and Netflix, not to mention the impact caused by piracy in underground “file sharing” and torrent sites.

But collecting classic erotica such as pornographic magazines from many decades ago and Erotic Books has recently sparked interest and discussion. This is not to say that it has never existed before, just that collecting erotica has become a topic that can be discussed more openly in recent times. This has been helped partly by the proliferation of pornographic material online, which has been credited with bringing the industry out of the “underground” status. An increased mainstream acceptance and interest has helped drive up prices of many items as well, due to the fact that there are simply more buyers who are looking for vintage erotic items.

Collectibles vary in price depending mainly on how rare they are and how much interest collectors have in them. Usually, vintage pornographic movies that are in good condition can sell for around $100 to $200 according to some sources. But it should be known that collecting erotica is not only limited to movies. Spicy romance novels, especially those that are over a few decades old and are now out of print, can fetch several hundreds of dollars.

Erotic art and photography is also something that is very sought out by collectors. Some well known artists such as Thomas Rowlandson, have created erotic paintings, but didn't want to release them at the time due to the stigma that pornographic materials had at the time and the fear that doing so would damage their reputation. The same goes for many photographers in the 40s and 50s. Now that their works of art have been discovered, they are being sought after by many collectors.

The bottom line of all of this is pretty much if you have any vintage erotic books, posters, works of art or moviesFree Articles, holding on to them is not such a bad idea. You never know what they might be worth.
