Placing every piece of furniture against the walls is another mistake many make. Even if your rooms are small consider placing a chair and side table in the center of your room just opposite your sofa. This will actually make your space appear larger.
Balance, scale and function. Without the three a room is not cohesive and you will not want to spend time there.
