There are a lot of people who want to set up their own business on the internet, but not everyone knows how. The internet can be a very good place to start a business, even if you have never done anything like it before. There are relatively no overheads, and its very easy once you know how. Here is a quick guide to starting up your own online store:

1> Domain name

The first thing you will need to open an online store is somewhere for it to be. This is called the domain name. When a person inputs the domain into their browser or clicks a link to the domain, they are taken to your website. The domain can be anything you want it to be, just as long as no other website already has it. Try to make it something catchy that is easy to remember.

2> Hosting

You will need hosting to host your website pages. Your files are stored on this hosting service, not the domain. The domain just takes people to your website.

3> Web Pages

Once you have a domain name and hosting you will need to have a website to upload. For an online store it would be a good idea to get some kind of script. This would allow you to list products in your store without having to design or any webpages. They are created for you with a script. You can find these in a lot of places online. Do a search for “shop script” This will give you a quite a few options. There are also quite a few great free scripts available as well.

4> Traffic

Once you have your website up and running, you will need to get some traffic to it. There are several ways to do this. You can get good free traffic in several ways:

Article marketing

Write some good articles and post them on article sites. Well written articles providing useful information will get you some good traffic. Make sure it is targeted traffic by writing articles that are on a similar theme to your products. There is an author information box at the bottom of the articles you write that will allow you to have a link to your site. When people read your article they may click on the link to your site. Just make sure that you are not being over promotional and don't spam. Just write useful articles, and keep the links to your site within in your signature.

Forums

You can include a link to your site in the signature section of your posts. Post in forums related to your store theme. But don't create posts just to promote your site, post relevant comments and useful information.

There are also ways to get traffic to your site that aren't so free. You could use pay per click advertising. This means that you pay for every visitor that clicks on the ad and gets taken to your site. The amount you pay varies on the keywords you are targeting, but generally they can be anything from $0.05 and more.

Succeeding online may not happen overnight. But if you put in the effort, then you might just be rewarded. A good general tip is to choose a market that isn't very competitive and has fewer businesses to compete with.
