First came man, and then came the wheel to haul man’s stuff. Then man invented the video surveillance system to find out who stole man’s stuff. Maybe I skipped a few years’ in-between events, but it’s a fact that if you have something, someone else wants it and may decide to steal it.

Now that we have determined that there is a need to protect our property,Why do We Need a Video Surveillance System? Articles we need to decide how to accomplish this task. Let’s look at the three basic purposes of a security camera system.

Deterrent

Just having a video surveillance system that is visible to a would-be thief sometimes will deter a criminal from trying to steal your property. In lieu of a system or to enhance a system we can sometimes use a fake camera or dummy camera. A criminal will not be able to tell the difference between the real and fake camera.

Surveillance

The reason we use a video surveillance system is to maintain surveillance of your property while you are there or away from your property. This allows you to monitor one room while in another room, or to monitor your home or business while you are not there.

Prosecution

If a criminal trespasses on your property or steels your possessions, you need a record of who, what and when the person committed the crime. There is no better means of proof than a time stamped video of the crime. One very important thing that should be discussed at this time is that unless you are a trained law enforcement officer, you should not attempt to get involved with the criminal. The home security camera system will tell you that you are being robbed so that you can call the police. If the criminal escapes before the police arrive, you will have video proof that can also be used for recognition.

Before I discuss some benefits of a video surveillance system, I would like to make you aware that with today’s modern video surveillance systems you not only get quality resolution, but the ability to connect to the internet and monitor your home or business from anywhere on earth using your laptop computer or smart phone.

With the use of today’s security system camera you can monitor safety in your business, home or backyard pool. You can monitor the efficiency of your workers, verify if they are using safety equipment and supervise your children and their friends swimming in your pool while you are inside the house. A video surveillance system can let you monitor your home or workplace for fire or flooding. Properly placed cameras can monitor areas of potential flooding, leakage or fire. This can be used for an early warning or proof of the cause of a major incident. A security camera system can help to control inventory from theft. A visual video surveillance system can deter pilferage or theft of your property. A lot of businesses have the camera very visible, even with signs specifying their placement and use to deter possible theft.

Abuse is a terrible word that defined means improper or excessive use or treatment and physical maltreatment. Abuse can be done on purpose or be caused by ignorance. A video surveillance system allows a supervisor or parent to monitor equipment use, tool utilization or physical abuse of a worker or child by another employee or babysitter.

There is an upside to a security surveillance system. It can be used for positive things such as monitoring the parking lot for carts, the front of a store for a need for additional clerks and an employee that is doing more than expected and doing it well. Also while on vacation you can monitor your home and lawn to assure that they are being properly cared for.

I suggest you look into a security camera system or home security camera system. They are very user-friendly and can be installed by anyone as a do-it-yourself project. They can record on smart cards or your computer’s hard drive and if desired connected to the internet.
