You are ready for college and eager to embark on your new independence,Brighten Your Dorm Space Articles only to realize that your dorm space does not look the same as those featured in the college promotional brochures and on the college website. Truth be told, the dorm is really small and boring. However, a small dorm does not have to be dull and boring because with some clever storage ideas and proper furniture placement, you can have a functional and stylish dorm that reflects your unique personality.
Due to this fact, start by analyzing the current layout of the furniture in the room, and figure out whether they are in the correct location. Put the furniture in different places to see which placement will be most suitable. Think about moving the dresser to the closet, if there is adequate space available in there, or opt to put your desk and your roommate's desk together for further space increases. Make your bed a daybed for additional seating. You can cause the bed more attractive by adding some throw pillows on the back to give it the look and feel of a divan. At night, remove the pillows and you have your bed yet again.
Choose functional furniture pieces, this way they can perform more than one function. A storage ottoman can be used to store linens, DVDS, books and other supplies and can do double duty as additional seating or perhaps a coffee table. Plus, ottomans are relatively inexpensive and can be found at many retailers in your community. In a small space, organization is really important, so make sure you have shoe and sweater organizers for storage. Using these organizers would give you additional space for workout gear or other essentials that you want to store.
Develop your own sense of style; you do not have to adorn your space in the same manner as your roommate. If your roommate is the matchy-matchy kind, there is no reason for you to do the same, feel free to decorate in a different way. Remember you have to live there too, so make the right selection.
If your dorm is dark and gloomy, add some mirrors in the room. Mirrors give the room a larger appearance. In addition to the mirrors, add trendy lighting such as a paper lantern that uses less space than bedside lamps, which takes up a great deal of space. These types of light will not only give more space, but will add texture to the space as well.
