How amphibious is done

 There are special camps where men who will take part in an invasion are trained. Day after clay, the soldiers and sailors practice until they know their jobs perfectly. At the same time, plans are being made for the actual invasion. Aerial pictures of the enemy coast are studied to find the strong points and weak points of the enemy defences.

Finally all is ready. The soldiers board ships that are called transports. Equipment and weapons of many kinds are loaded on cargo ships. The ships get under way and head for the enemy coast across the water. The fleet of ships is protected by friendly planes flying overhead, ready to attack enemy planes that may try to fly over the fleet. Other friendly planes have another job to do in amphibious warfare. They bomb and machine-gun the enemy beach for several days before the invasion begins. The fleet nears the enemy coast.

The battleships, cruisers and destroyers steam in close. The sailors fire the heavy guns. They send round after round of shells crashing onto the enemy beach. Dday is at hand. D-day is the day an invasion begins. H-hour is the exact time w hen the invasion starts.
